IASP Award for Excellence in Pain Research and Management in Developing Countries
Ana Vieira, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at Universidade Federal De Pelotas studying neonatal and infant pain. She is focused on knowledge translation and partners with several universities in Brazil to disseminate knowledge of neonatal pain management and pain management during vaccination to the wider community. She is currently running two research projects which identify pain management practices in the Basic (Primary) Health Units and at the NICU to identify the barriers and facilitators to implementing the pain management recommendations and demonstrate how to prevent/minimize pain during immunizations and minor painful procedures in the NICU.
“Dr. Vieira is extremely committed, passionate and a real driver for advocating for infants and young children. Her work has become extremely well recognized in Brazil and is changing practices in a context of limited interest in EBP and without financial support for her kind of research,” say her nominators Drs. Denise Harrison, Mariana Bueno, and Denise Galstado.
